What is LSD?
LSD might be the most misunderstood substance on the planet. And that’s not an accident - the fear around it was very deliberately built. But the science? The history? It tells a completely different story.
A Little History
LSD was first synthesized in 1938 by a Swiss chemist named Albert Hofmann while he was working at Sandoz Laboratories. He wasn’t trying to make a psychedelic. He was researching compounds that might help with circulation and respiratory issues.
Five years later, he accidentally absorbed a tiny amount through his skin and experienced something he described as an “uninterrupted stream of fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colors.” (pretty dope) He had just discovered what would become one of the most researched - and most controversial - substances in modern history.
Through the 1950s and 60s, LSD was used in over 1,000 clinical studies. Psychiatrists were using it to treat alcoholism, PTSD, anxiety, and depression - with results that were genuinely exciting. Then it got swept up in the cultural and political chaos of the Vietnam era, was criminalized in 1968 (F You Nixon!), and the research stopped almost overnight.
The good news? Research started again. And what scientists are finding is validating everything those early psychiatrists saw.
The Science
LSD is a serotonergic psychedelic, which means it primarily works by binding to serotonin receptors in the brain - specifically the 5-HT2A receptor, which plays a major role in mood, perception, and cognition.
At a full dose, this creates a profound shift in consciousness. At a microdose - we’re talking about 10 to 20 micrograms, or roughly 1/10th of a recreational dose - something very different happens.
At microdose levels, LSD appears to:
Increase neuroplasticity - your brain’s ability to form new connections and break old patterns
Enhance focus and cognitive flexibility
Reduce activity in the “default mode network” - the part of your brain responsible for rumination, self-criticism, and that loop of anxious thoughts you can’t turn off
Boost energy and motivation without the jittery feeling of caffeine or stimulants
Support emotional openness and social connection
One of the most interesting things about LSD at a microdose level is how clean many people describe it. No foggy head. No crash. Just a version of yourself that feels a little more switched ON.
How LSD is Used for Microdosing
LSD microdosing is typically done with liquid LSD or tabs, measured into very precise sub-perceptual doses. The goal is always the same: you should not feel psychedelic. You should just feel better, energized, and focused.
The most common protocols follow a pattern of dosing every few days to prevent tolerance from building up and to give your nervous system time to integrate. Some people do it seasonally. Some do it for a specific window of time when they need extra support.
Common reasons people come to me asking about LSD microdosing:
They’re dealing with ADHD and want an alternative to stimulant medications
They’re in a creative field and feel stuck or burned out
They’ve tried mushroom microdosing and want to compare the experience
They struggle with social anxiety and want to feel more at ease in the world
They simply want to feel more engaged with their own life
Is It Safe?
LSD is non-addictive and non-toxic. You cannot overdose on it. It does not cause physical dependence.
That said - it’s not for everyone. People with a personal or family history of certain mental health conditions should approach with extra caution, and that’s always part of the conversation I have with every single client before recommending anything.
The most important thing is that you have real information, from someone who actually cares about your wellbeing - not just a Ai response that sends you spiraling.
You Deserve Real Answers
I've talked to hundreds of people who were told their whole lives that LSD was dangerous, irresponsible, or something only certain kinds of people did. And then they did their research and everything started to shift.
You don’t have to take my word for it. But I’d love to talk.
Book a consultation and let’s figure out together whether LSD microdosing - or any microdosing protocol - might be right for you.
