WTF is Microdosing?

Okay, let’s talk about this - because I promise it’s not what you’ve heard.

Microdosing means taking a tiny amount - we’re talking about 1/10th of what you’d consider a “dose” and using it as a tool for everyday life. We’re not talking about tripping out… ever. We’re not talking about seeing things or being out of control. Think of it as taking a sip of wine rather than downing the whole bottle. The point is to have a little assist to get through your day.

Here’s what all three medicines I work with have in common: at microdose levels, none of them will make you hallucinate or feel out of control. You can go to work. You can drive your kids to school. You can live your life - you might just enjoy it a little more.

The Three Medicines I Educate People On

Mushrooms

People use mushroom microdoses for anxiety, depression, creativity, focus, and just feeling more present in their own life. In a world where so many people are prescribed pills that numb and dull us, these allow us to feel and connect.

LSD

Before it got a bad reputation, LSD was being studied as a serious mental health tool. At microdose levels, many people report laser-sharp focus, elevated mood, and a real sense of flow. Artists, entrepreneurs, tech bros, and everyday people are quietly using it to get out of their own heads and get shit done.

DMT

At a microdose level, DMT isn't the intense experience you’ve heard stories about. Yes - it can be the world’s most intense psychedelic at full dose. But when used in small amounts, it’s subtle, grounding, loving, and deeply clarifying.

What Microdosing Is Not

Because the internet is going to lie to you, let me be clear:

  • Not a trip. A microdose is, by definition, sub-perceptual. No visuals. No loss of control. No bad trips.

  • Not a quick fix. Microdosing works as a practice over weeks, not as a pill you take and feel different by lunchtime.

  • Not a replacement for therapy or medical care. It’s a tool. A good one. But it works best alongside other care, not instead of it.

  • Not the same as recreational use. Microdosing is intentional, structured, and built around making your everyday life better - not escaping it.

  • Not all hippie/shaman/ceremony. You don’t need a crystal, a drum circle, or a guide named Wolf. You just need real information and the right protocol for you.

How Microdosing Actually Works

All three of these medicines bind to serotonin receptors in your brain - particularly the 5-HT2A receptor. This is the same receptor most antidepressants target. The difference is in how.

At sub-perceptual doses, microdoses appear to:

  • Quiet the default mode network - the part of your brain that runs the constant background loop of worry, self-criticism, and rumination

  • Increase neuroplasticity - your brain’s ability to form new connections and break old patterns

  • Lift the emotional baseline - so the resting state of “you” feels lighter, calmer, more like yourself

  • Improve mood, focus, sleep, and emotional flexibility - depending on the medicine and the protocol

You don’t have to understand the science to benefit. But it helps to know there is science. We’re not making this up.

What You Might Notice

The honest truth: most people don’t feel anything dramatic on a microdose. That’s the point.

What people most often report over weeks of microdosing:

  • Better sleep

  • A lift in mood that doesn’t feel forced

  • Less anxiety, especially the social and 3AM variety

  • More patience - with themselves and with everyone else

  • Improved focus and creativity

  • Reduced PMS or menopause-related mood symptoms

  • A general sense that life feels a little more okay

Some people notice things within the first week. Some don’t notice until week three. Some only realize it’s working when they stop and everything gets harder again.

How Often Do You Microdose?

It depends on the medicine, and it depends on you.

  • Mushrooms: typically 5–6 days a week with 1–2 rest days.

  • LSD: 1 day on, 2 days off - tolerance builds fast with LSD, so the off days are mandatory.

  • DMT: no set protocol - DMT is the most individualized of the three. We map your rhythm together.

The best protocol is your protocol - the one that fits your body, your schedule, your nervous system, and your goals.

Is Microdosing Safe?

For most people, yes - at microdose levels, psilocybin and LSD have been rated among the safest substances studied (yes, safer than alcohol). DMT clears the body within hours.

That said - microdosing isn’t for everyone. We’d have a different conversation if you:

  • Have a personal or family history of psychosis, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder

  • Are on MAOIs or lithium (hard interactions)

  • Have certain cardiovascular conditions

Everything else we figure out together on the consult.

How Do I Start?

You don’t have to figure this out alone. Here’s the gentlest path in:

  1. Read. Spend time on the substance pages, the FAQs, and the topic pages on this site. Get comfortable with the vocabulary.

  2. Get specific. Notice what you’re actually hoping microdosing might help with. Mood? Sleep? Focus? Menopause? Anxiety? The more specific, the better the protocol.

  3. Talk to a real person. Book a free 20-minute consultation. We’ll talk through your goals, your health history, and what makes sense for you. No pressure to do anything. Most people leave with more clarity than they started with.

Want to Go Deeper?

I write about microdosing - the science, the stories, the things nobody else is willing to say out loud - in my book Bitches Be Trippin’. If this page resonated, that book is the unfiltered next step.

You Deserve Real Information

The research is growing. The conversation is shifting. And more people than ever are realizing that the scary stories we were told don’t tell the whole truth.

You deserve to have the full picture. No judgment, no pressure - just real information from someone who genuinely cares about helping you figure out what’s right for you.

That’s exactly what I’m here for.

You Are Magic. Let's help you remember that.

What a Microdose IS:

• 1/10th to 1/20th of a standard dose

• For mushrooms: 50mg - 300mg, for LSD 10-20 ug, for DMT one vape inhale

• Sub-perceptual (‘below perception’ meaning unnoticeable - no obvious psychedelic effects)

• Subtle enough to go about your normal day

• Consistent enough to create beneficial changes

What a Microdose IS NOT:

• An unmeasured amount

• An irregular daily dose

• Something you “feel” strongly the whole day

• Prohibiting you from getting through your
day with a clear mind

• A “one and done” experience
